Dizzee Rascal to be convicted of assaulting ex-fiancé

Dizzee Rascal is set to appear in court to be convicted for assaulting his ex-fiancée during a “chaotic” argument over money and contact with their children.

The 37-year-old grime artist, whose real name is Dylan Mills, was found guilty of assaulting Cassandra Jones after a court hearing in March, with a judge concluding he was “abusive and aggressive”.

He is due to appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court for the sentencing hearing on Friday morning.

During the trial, Wimbledon Magistrates Court heard he pressed his forehead against hers before knocking her to the ground during the incident at a flat in Streatham, south London, on June 8 last year.

The musician behind the singles Bonkers and Dance Wiv Me was “frustrated” with the custody arrangements and the couple had a falling out when he dropped their daughter off at the property, the court heard.

Mills, who had two children with Ms Jones before they separated in February 2021, is said to have “burst” into the home, banged his head against a refrigerator three times while holding his son and started “toting” Ms Jones scream and scream”. and her mother, Dawn Kirk.

The court heard Ms Jones begin filming him, but he took her phone and then Ms Kirk’s phone.

The screaming got so loud it alerted two neighbors and the police were called, a judge was told.

The court overheard Mills upon arrival telling officers: “I am the attacker,” but later gave a prepared statement in a police interview, denying the allegations and claiming he had been attacked by Ms Jones.

After the guilty verdict, Mills smashed a photographer’s camera in court after knocking it out of their hands and throwing it across the street.

Police initially said they were investigating, but no charges were filed.

Ms Jones said the ruling showed that “wealth and status cannot be used to silence women”.

In 2003, Mills released his debut album Boy In Da Corner.

His seventh studio album E3 AF, which references his east London postcode and African heritage, is out on October 30th.

He was awarded an MBE for services to music in the Queen’s Birthday Honors in 2020 and has performed at festivals including Live At Lydiard in Swindon and Boardmasters in Cornwall in August.
