If you’re expecting high production value for everything you watch, then you’ll likely get tired of “Everything” extremely quickly. Shot on a Super 8mm camera and released commercially on VHS (via Coming soon). Apparently Jordan and co-writer/star Barry J. Gillis had no idea what they were doing while making the movie.
However, that is the real beauty of “Things”. What the film lacks in quality, it makes up for in real passion. While watching the movie, it’s clear that Jordan and Gillis made it purely based on the vibe, perhaps they were looking into what the making of the film was like. Honestly, that’s more authentic than anything following the recent trend of “movies about the magic of movies” because it shows that anyone can pick up a camera and shoot. It doesn’t matter if you have filmmaking experience or not. What’s important, however, is that you have fun doing it, a feeling that is clearly felt in every twisty shot.
There’s no better time to watch “Things” than now. It’s the quintessential cabin in the jungle movie, albeit with a lot more bloodsucking and beer-drinking insects. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary to watch this Halloween, go into the movie armed with just the knowledge I’ve given you here. You will not regret it.
