The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says it’s an “urgent warning sign”.

They suggest seeking “immediate” help if you or someone in your family starts to seem confused while suffering with Covid.

The CDC also says anyone who experiences shortness of breath, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, is unable to stay awake, or pale or blue skin, lips, or fingernails, needs emergency help.

While it is important to watch for warning signs of serious illness, a series of extremely positive studies show that Omicron is milder than other strains in the vaccine.

Health officials have repeatedly said the Covid booster shots protect against Omicron and offer the best chance of weathering the pandemic.

The Sun’s Jabs Army campaign is helping to get key additional vaccines in British arms to avoid the need for any new restrictions.

With earlier strains of coronavirus like Delta, symptoms are often more recognizable such as a persistent cough, fever, and loss of taste and smell.

Even so, Omicron is more difficult to identify as it has been found to be mixed with symptom of seasonal illnesses such as the flu or the common cold.

Last year, millions of people using apps to record symptoms reported “sudden confusion (delirium)” when they had Covid.

It has been shown to be a major symptom of the virus in older adults and often indicates a high risk of requiring medical treatment.

The ZOE Covid symptom study also identified brain fog and feelings of depression in Top 20 Omicron symptoms.

Delirium is a common response to infection and disease in older adults – it can be triggered by dehydration, low oxygen levels, or a disrupted salt balance in the body.

There are two types of delirium, which can be evident in a new change from a person’s normal behavior.

The first is hyperactive delirium, when someone suddenly starts acting strange and unlike them.

They may become agitated or distressed, or even aggressive.

The second type, inactive delirium, is more common and more difficult to detect.

They become drowsy and less responsive to what is happening around them, often withdrawing.

It can also cause people to become self-conscious because they don’t realize they need a drink and stop eating and drinking.

It’s important to remember that this is not the only symptom, with common signs being fatigue, shortness of breath, muscle and body aches, as well as a headache or sore throat.
