Does Halloween Ending Really Offer the Most Surety Ending in the Franchise

Looking through the entire “Halloween” series, the ways in which Michael is eliminated vary between films, with most entries never reaching a definite conclusion. In Carpenter’s 1978 horror masterpiece, Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) takes Michael in lead off Doyle’s balcony. Of course, when he looked down, Michael wouldn’t be found. That kind of ending would be difficult to get a sequel, but in Carpenter’s point of view, it offers a fitting moment of horror, knowing that the Shape of Evil will always infect Haddonfield.

“Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers” sees the people of Haddonfield reloading Michael before he collapses onto a mine shaft. It’s easily one of the weakest ways to get him out, especially since ‘Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers’ shows him just crawling out right after. Even getting through the development process. Knife development with niece Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris) is abandoned, so Michael no longer has a patron.

“Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers” is an even more confusing mess because it has two choices. In the theatrical footage, Paul Rudd’s Tommy Doyle beats him to death with a lead pipe, before the film ends with Michael’s mask on the ground, with Dr. Loomis screaming in the background. However, in Producer’s Cut, Michael is stopped by a set of runes placed on the ground, and then swaps clothes with Dr. Wynn (Mitchell Ryan).

You would think that Michael can’t die, and while that’s true, the series is close to dealing the final blow to its key killer.
