Last year, dogs were behind more than 800 insurance claims in the UK, including an incident where a dog flooded the kitchen by turning on the faucet, reports Time. Whiskey, a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Great Dane, caused £4,000 in damage after he turned on the faucet while his owner was briefly out of the house. Another case reported by insurance provider Aviva involved a dog ramming a woman and spilling a two-liter can of paint down the stairs.
Staffordshire pub Vladimir Putin
A British pub caused a stir on Wednesday for “banning” Vladimir Putin. Sam Rice, who runs the Loaf and Cheese pub in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, says Sky News that what Putin is doing is “just wrong – and people here feel very strongly about it”. The news comes a day after it was reported that a pub in Nottingham had put a picture of the Russian president in its urinal.
‘Extinct’ bats discovered in Rwanda
A bat species not seen in 40 years has been discovered in Rwanda, reports Guardians. Conservationists have feared the Hill’s horseshoe bat is extinct. Jon Flanders, director of Bat Conservation International, said the rediscovery of the lost species was “incredible”. “Now our real work begins to figure out how to protect this species long-term into the future,” he added.
