LOVE dad Donal Lunny said an emotional farewell to his son Shane today, ahead of his life’s anniversary on Sunday.
Family and close friends also gathered outside the funeral home in Bray, Co Wicklow to pay their respects after the boy turned 17. died last week.
Folk musicians Donal and Sinead said they will “forever miss” their tragic son Shane in an online death notice.
The teenager had battled demons over his mental health and went missing before Gardai confirmed that he was “passed away”.
Mother Sinead has told fans on Twitter that she feels “lost” since she lost her son, who she describes as “the very light of my life”.

Ahead of the memorial service, the 55-year-old mother tweeted: “I apologize for what I tweeted yesterday.
“I’m so sad. My son is the love of my life.”

The Nothing Compares 2 U singer also told her former teammate Donal how much Shane loved him and what a loving parent he was.
A message across from the funeral home read: “We all love you Shane Lunny.”
Friends and family comforted each other, some dressed in Hindi garb recognizing Shane’s religion, as tears fell.
A memorial service to celebrate Shane’s life, for his family and close friends, will be held at The Martello, Bray on Sunday from 2pm to 5pm.
A Covid Certificate and face covering are required. The family also requested that “colorful clothing be preferred” for those in attendance.
They also asked to only send flowers to the family and contribute to Pieta House.
One mourner said: “I pray that your precious, beautiful son rests in peace. A terrible loss for you and your family to suffer.
“I wish you strength and courage to get through the weeks and years ahead. Shane will take care of you, may he rest in peace.”
Another shared: “Dear Sinéad O’Connor.
“The boy Shane broke so many hearts. And he broke my heart.
“Though I know him only through a few pictures and a poem.
“He left a huge void. My soul has turned into a barrel of pain and sorrow.
Another added: “Dear Sinéad, Donal and all of Shane’s family and friends. Sad to hear this news.
“May the memories you’ve shared brighten your heart.”
Last week, Sinead announced Shane’s passing on Twitter, saying: “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the light of my life, has decided to end his life. his mortal struggle today and is now with the Lord.
“May he rest in peace and no one will follow his example. My dear child. I love you very much. Please rest in peace:”
She later tweeted a Bob Marley song she dedicated to Shane: “This is a song for my Shane. The light of my life.
“The lamp of my soul. My blue-eyed baby. You will always be my light. We will always be together. No boundaries can separate us.”
Musicians such as Imelda May and Shane MacGowan, for whom Shane is named, were among those to offer their condolences to the talented poet.
