he prestigious fashion event on May 2 this year coincided with the 67th birthday of the world-renowned fashion designer.

The pair were pictured at the event alongside the US rapper in a heavy gold Versace dress.

“I wanted to give that, I wanted to give to a woman, and Donatella brings that woman,” she told Vogue.

“I’m feeling spectacular… rocking this dress and having it presented by Mrs. Donatella so thank you very much and Happy Birthday.”

Versace added that the dress was “one of the designer’s most spectacular” and praised the rapper’s “braveness in wearing it.”

“She’s so brave to wear it because it’s so heavy, but look at her body, she’s crazy, only she could carry it,” she said.

She later posted on Instagram: “Cardi, you are an absolute vision. Walking the Met red carpet with you was the greatest birthday present.”

They were joined at the prestigious fashion event by British celebrities including Oscar winner Riz Ahmed, Kate Moss, James Corden and rapper Stormzy.

The event took place at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York under the motto “Gilded Glamour”.

Brooklyn, 23, son of David and Victoria Beckham, married Transformers star Peltz last month in a star-studded ceremony at her family’s sprawling Palm Beach, Florida estate.

Guests at the wedding included tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, Eva Longoria and Spice Girls Mel B and Mel C.

Speaking to Vogue on the red carpet, Beckham said: “It’s so much fun. Marrying your best friend is the best.

“We feel like we’re on a play date forever,” Peltz added.

The model and photographer opted for a sheer shirt and cream suit by Valentino’s creative director Pier Paulo Piccioli, while his wife wore a flowy, off-the-shoulder dress in fuchsia.

“I usually wear a plain black suit. But this time I wore (with) a see-through shirt and a cream suit. Pierpaolo always kills it,” Beckham told Vogue.

Peltz said of her own outfit, “I’m so honored. I get so excited every time I get to wear one of his dresses. It makes you feel like a princess.”

This year’s gala was a family affair for the Kardashian-Jenners, who reunited on the event’s red carpet for the first time ever.

Matriarch Kris Jenner said she was very excited to see “my girls” at the prestigious fashion event in New York, saying all five of her daughters looked “amazing”.

The sisters, Kourtney, 43, Kim, 41, Khloe, 37, Kendall, 26, and Kylie, 24, all sported striking looks.

“I just want to get on the carpet, I don’t care if I’m wearing roller skates,” Kris told Vogue.

“For me, that’s when the fun begins and I get to see them. All five come.”

It was Khloe Kardashian’s first-ever appearance at the gala, and the reality star said it was a “scary but fabulous” experience.

“It’s a much shorter rug than I thought… it’s so scary, but it’s fabulous. I’m so excited to be here,” she told Vogue.

“I’m so excited we’re all here together… Kourt and Trav are right behind us, my mom, and I think Kendall and Kylie just walked in. It’s gonna be a fun night.

“I just had to be a part of that experience,” she added.

Her sister Kourtney and partner Travis Barker, who recently married in a secret ceremony in Las Vegas, said, “We’re just having fun … with all the sisters.”

The couple both wore Thom Browne.

Barker said of his outfit: “I just don’t care, I guess that’s how I grew up, punk rock goes against the grain and does what you want.”

Kendall Jenner wore a tailored black Prada dress with a sweeping statement black train with a statement bleached brow.

Her sister Kylie wore an outfit inspired by a cream wedding dress, complete with a veil attached to a backwards baseball cap.

But it was Kim Kardashian’s look that stole the show, arriving in a period dress worn by Marilyn Monroe to her 1962 Happy Birthday performance to former President John F. Kennedy.

Kim reportedly had to prepare for her performance in a “special dressing room.”

The Kardashian reunion at the gala came just hours after she won a US defamation lawsuit brought against her by ex-reality star and former partner of Rob Kardashian, Blac Chyna.

Kim Kardashian said she was “so honored” to wear a period dress once worn by Hollywood superstar Marilyn Monroe.

The reality star revealed she lost 16 pounds to fit into the ‘iconic’ dress that was loaned to her by Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum.

It was worn by Monroe in 1962 during her famous performance of Happy Birthday to US President John F. Kennedy.

One of the biggest and most exclusive nights in the fashion world, the gala attracts an array of high-end and outrageous outfits.

Sharing pictures of the dress on Instagram, Kardashian revealed that the skin-tight dress was adorned with more than 6,000 crystals, which were hand-sewn by costumer Jean Louis.

“I am so honored to wear the iconic dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 as she sang Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy,” she wrote.

“It’s a stunning, skin-tight gown adorned with more than 6,000 hand-sewn crystals by costume designer Jean Louis.

“Thank you Ripley’s Believe It or Not! for giving me the opportunity to present this stunning piece of fashion history for the first time since the late Marilyn Monroe wore it.

“I am infinitely grateful for this moment.”

“I had this idea of trying it on, and then they came with armed guards and gloves,” she told Vogue on the event’s red carpet.

“I tried it on and it didn’t fit me. I said, ‘Give me three weeks.’ I had to lose 16 kilos today.

“It was such a challenge. It was like a (movie) reel. I was determined to fit in.

“I haven’t had any carbs or sugar for about three weeks. We’re having (a) pizza and donut party at the hotel (after the Met Gala).”

Kardashian arrived at the glittering night with boyfriend Pete Davidson, who joked that she didn’t allow him to wear his “propeller hat.”

The evening’s co-host Blake Lively graced the gala with the first costume change of the evening.

Shortly after arriving on the arm of husband and co-host Ryan Reynolds in a bronze and rose Versace gown, the matching bow was unfolded into a full train, transforming her gown into a blue and gold marvel.

The star said her look was a “homage to New York City,” inspired by the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and Grand Central Station’s blue ceiling.

Speaking to Vogue on the red carpet, she revealed that her headdress had seven stars, like the city’s famous monument, the Statue of Liberty, and was studded with 25 stones to represent the statue’s 25 windows.

Pop star Lizzo said she felt “like a work of art” in her outfit for the event – a large black silk coat with gold bar decorations designed by Thom Browne.

“It took 22,000 hours to make this coat. I’m just so happy to be in it, it makes me feel like a work of art,” she told Vogue on the red carpet.

Discussing her long corkscrew nails, she joked, “I’m going to open all the wine tonight…they’re amazing.” I can wipe my ass with this, believe it or not.

“I can do anything with these things, hopefully I can play the flute.”

Famous British faces also made an appearance, including grime artist Stormzy, who admitted he was “nervous” attending his first-ever Met Gala.

The rapper wore an all-white Burberry suit with a matching long white cape, which he admitted wasn’t his usual look.

“I usually wear all black most of the time … so it’s nice to shine today,” he told Vogue on the event’s red carpet.

“I’m nervous, it’s crazy, it’s a lot different, but it’s amazing, I’ll just take it.

“It’s very different when you see them (celebrities) on TV, so I just take some selfies and have a drink and relax and record it all.”
