Ralf Rangnick refuses to focus on the table but admits top 4 hopes are unfavorable

The theme of frustration continued for Manchester United in the First League on Saturday.

with Cristiano Ronaldo absent due to illness, the Red Devils fought a 1-1 draw at home to leicester City and were spared the heartbreak of defeat after VAR ruled out a late James Maddison goal.

Kelechi Iheanacho had put the Foxes ahead earlier, only for Fred – one of United’s only positive players that day – to head home a rebounded shot a few minutes later.

The result gave the rivals a chance to settle in the race for a top-four finish and as the Premier League season draws to a close United are increasingly lacking what it takes to compete with those just above them to be able to keep up.

Van de Beek stroke

Donny van de Beek has had a mixed fortune since moving everton on loan, with Sunday arguably the low point for the Dutch midfielder.

The playmaker should start for the toffees west ham United, although an injury in warm-up meant he was replaced by Mason Holgate in the XI. It’s the second consecutive Premier League game the former Ajax star has missed after sitting out the 1-0 win newcastle.

Van de Beek has shown some talent since joining the Merseyside club, although he has yet to offer the consistency and quality needed to suggest he can prevail at Old Trafford next season.

Momentum seems to be building behind Erik ten Hag, who may become the new manager of Manchester Unitedwith the current Ajax coach seen as the preferred candidate within the club hierarchy.

With Ralf Rangnick unlikely to continue as a coach beyond the current season, Paris Saint-Germain’s Ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino are seen as the most likely options. The Dutchman has reportedly already held talks about the soon-to-be-vacant position.

Ten Hag was reportedly curious about United’s transfer plans when interviewed for the job given the club’s fickleness in the market in recent years.

“He was reportedly interested in hearing about their total budget in the upcoming window, which players they could potentially sign and how the club plan to support him,” it said.

Ten Hag has been linked with a move to United

identified targets

Ten Hag is said to be already considering potential United additions, including a striker and a defender with whom he is currently working at Ajax.

Alongside the Brazilian, Jurrien Timber is said to be a target for Ten Hag. United’s defense has been a concern throughout the campaign and the 20-year-old is said to be viewed as a potential short- and long-term fix for the leaking backline at Old Trafford.
