The world is very different today than it was when most parents were young. The internet has changed everything. Porn is endemic. The celebration of violent sexual activity has been normalized. Young people are having sex much younger than they used to.

This is the reason for proposals to revise Junior Cert courses in Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) and Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE). They are due to be released tomorrow by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment and will reportedly teach children about “consent, safe use of the internet, pornography, gender identity and sexual orientation”.
