Don’t buy a new iPhone – how to increase speed and battery life with five simple tricks TODAY

WHEN YOUR iPhone blinks, it’s easy to fall into the trap of simply looking for a new one.

However, upgrading isn’t always the best way forward. Here are five tricks to make your iPhone last longer.

1. Enable auto-brightness

It can be tempting to keep your phone’s brightness at max — but it doesn’t have to be full all the time.

The brighter your phone’s screen, the faster your battery life will drain.

So consider enabling Apple’s Auto-Brightness feature, which regulates the display brightness based on the ambient lighting wherever you are.

This can significantly improve your battery life over time and is a handy way to automatically keep your brightness at the right level.

2. Delete battery draining apps

Your iPhone has a built-in tool that can help you find out exactly which apps are draining your battery life.

Go to Settings > Battery and then wait for the page to load.

Next, tap on the “Last 10 days” option, which shows battery usage for various apps over the past week and a half.

If you scroll down, you’ll see the apps that used up the majority of your battery life in percentage form.

So, if an app has 20% next to it, it means that it has consumed one-fifth of the total battery life used in the last 10 days.

You can also toggle it to view the items listed by activity and organize them by battery usage.

So if you’ve spent very little time on an app but it’s at the top of your usage list, that means it’s a battery killer.

This section also breaks down the time the app has been running in the background.

Watch out for apps that consume a lot of battery and take up a lot of background usage time – they’re particularly bad for your battery life.

3. Stop apps from “quitting”.

Constantly closing iPhone apps is a waste of time – and could even damage your phone.

Apple says you shouldn’t bother unless an app is frozen.

“When you see your recent apps, the apps aren’t open, but they’re on standby to help you navigate and multitask,” Apple explained.

Part of the problem is that it’s tempting to think apps are running in your “carousel.”

But they’re actually frozen by your iPhone, so they don’t consume resources while you’re doing other things.

Fully restarting apps after swiping consumes more battery life.

The more you stress your battery, the faster it will degrade over time. This app also takes longer to restart.

It’s like loading a TV from standby instead of completely restarting the TV.

4. Do not use your iPhone while charging

It’s very tempting to use our iPhone while it’s connected to the charger, but this can be extremely damaging to the battery.

There is compelling evidence that using your phone while it’s charging not only decreases battery life, but also breaks the charging cycle.

This is especially the case when you’re playing a game or watching videos on your phone, which are considered processor-intensive tasks.

5. Automatically close your Safari tabs

Another way to increase performance is to trigger a tab self-destruct command in the Safari iOS app.

When enabled, the setting means users don’t have to manually close tabs from within the app.

As a result, your browser is less likely to suffer from a build-up of unused tabs, which can slow down your device and impact your battery life.

To set your Safari tabs to close automatically, open your iPhone Settings app. Scroll down and tap Safari.

Scroll down again and tap Close tabs. From the menu, choose whether to close tabs after a day, a week, or a month.

BONUS TIP: Keep your iPhone cool

The last thing you want to do to save your iPhone battery is keep it cool as much as possible.

Not only does this help extend battery life, but it also improves the overall functionality and longevity of your iPhone.

Especially when charging, this could seem like storing the iPhone in a well-ventilated place, or maybe even removing it from the case while it recharges.

Also, avoid putting your phone on hot dashboards or under your pillow while you sleep.
