Actress Sophie McShera had fans purring after strutting her stuff down the red carpet at the premiere of Downton Abbey: A New Era at Cineworld Leicester Square on Monday night.

The 36-year-old, who plays home cook Daisy Robinson in the historical drama, wore a stunning metallic crop top and maxi skirt combo that showcased her waist.

Ms McShera added a pair of silver open-toe pumps to the mix and exuded confidence in silver earrings and purple lipstick, wearing her long brunette tresses to one side.

And her performance was just the ticket for fans who have been eagerly awaiting the follow-up film since 2019.

The sequel, A New Era, hits UK cinemas on Friday (April 29). The trailer shows the Crawley family heading to the south of France to uncover a secret at a villa owned by Violet Crawley, widow of the Countess of Grantham, played by Dame Maggie Smith.

It begins with Dame Maggie declaring: “I came into possession of a villa in the south of France. Years ago, before you were born. I met a man.”

It soon turns out that the widow Grantham and her lover “spent a few days together and he gave her a house”.

The trailer also reveals that the Downton estate will be a film set for Hollywood producer and director Jack Barber (Hugh Dancy).

Speaking of the film, creator Julian Fellowes said, “It’s really a new era. As the 1920s progressed, the world changed in many ways.

“Everything from entertainment to transportation was really different in the late 20’s. That’s what we’re referring to.

“As we know from the last film, Mary may not be the nominal head of the family, but she effectively runs the show. We go further.

“We’re trying to mark the change – the fact that Crawleys of Downton is almost in the 1930s, which is just the beginning of the modern world.”

Elsewhere at the premiere, Sophie’s co-star Tuppence Middleton debuted her baby bump.

The 35-year-old keeps her private life out of the limelight, who the father is is not known.
