dr Disrespect calls Twitch a “sh**t platform” after the company took a MAJOR cut in streamer salaries

BANNED Twitch Streamer Dr. Disrespect spoke out about the company shortly after the announcement that it would begin taking a major cut in streamers’ revenue.

The Amazon-owned streaming service is home to a number of content creators, most of whom play games while chatting with their community.

Twitch is the world's most popular gaming streaming service.

Twitch is the world’s most popular gaming streaming service.

Twitch has recently made a number of changes that have been unpopular with creators and fans in a bid to boost its earnings.

It started with showing mid-stream ads on certain channels, which can be problematic on the platform.

Since the creators do not choose the timing of these commercial breaks, they can occur during a crucial part of the game.

However, the recent change in the cut Twitch is taking from streamers’ earnings has angered many major streamers, some of whom have claimed they may be leaving the service because of it.

Depending on how popular their stream is, it’s possible for creators to negotiate the percentage of revenue they get from subscriptions to their channel, known as a “premium deal.”

The standard contract is a 50/50 split of Tier 1 subscriptions, although larger streamers often negotiate a bigger 70/30 cut for themselves.

However in one to blog Twitch has announced that from June 1, 2023, even larger streamers will only be able to withhold 70% of their earnings up to a limit of $100,000 (£85,500).

After that, even streamers who previously negotiated a premium deal can only take home 50% of their salary.

This change is intended to encourage content creators to add more commercial breaks to their streams to offset the loss in revenue.

Twitch streamer Asmongold tweeted about the latest change, saying, “Let’s cut the cops**t – excessive publicity is killing Twitch.”

He goes on to comment on the fact that some streams require new viewers to watch up to six ads before they can see the content.

Valkyrae is another streamer who has spoken out about the change, suggesting she’s considering switching to competitor YouTube Gaming.

In a tweet, she said: “Weird to be at a YouTube event and speak directly to executives while Twitch is looking for profit.

“You’re killing your viewer base with more ads and hurting the backbone of your business, the creators.”

Dr Disrespect was banned from Twitch in June 2020 for reasons that have never been publicly disclosed.

He now streams on YouTube and recently tweeted about the changes to Twitch, saying, “Twitch has become a freaking platform hasn’t it?

“What goes around comes around.”
