The A stands for arm, with the GP saying that if someone can’t raise both hands above their head, that’s a sign of a stroke.

He added that the S is for speech, saying: “They can either speak clearly or be livid and they can understand what you’re saying.”

He said the T stands for time, adding: “It’s urgent, so call 999 if you see someone with these types of symptoms and signs and record the time when the symptoms occurred.
