Dramatic footage captured the moment a hot air balloon landed with a “jerk” after an “erratic flight” that nearly saw it crash into several houses.
Locals watched in equal parts amusement and horror as the hot air balloon flew “very low and erratic”.
An eyewitness saw the balloon “in trouble” fly over the M5 before it was later able to land in a locked car park in Taunton, Somerset.
Nicki Witherden, a local resident, managed to film the balloon’s descent, including the moment it landed on Thursday, April 19.
The 53-year-old officer custodian, who lives directly across from the disused car park, said the balloon was sighted over Taunton in the early evening.

She said: “I was dozing off and my partner was waking me up while he was talking about something, so I got up and looked out the balcony door to be faced with the sheer size of the red balloon descending.
“Many people had gathered to watch the sound of the fire starting, it was a bit scary to watch. Amazingly, no one was hurt or injured.
“A lot of people had seen it coming down near Taunton and it happened to land near where I live.”
Video captured the moment the balloon landed in a parking lot surrounded by apartments. The burner in the balloon keeps igniting as it slowly floats across the parking lot as spectators look on in stunned silence.
Another witness added: “The balloon appeared to run into trouble as it drove across the freeway. It came very low over the shops.
“It flew very low and erratic before landing in the parking lot. The parking lot was locked so no one could come out.
“They were waiting for the arrival of a key holder. Passengers could disembark through a side gate. The basket was very full of people. When it landed they were all very quiet.”
It was reported that no one was injured during the descent of the balloon. The crew and some local residents then helped them deflate and pack away.
Taking to social media, one of those on board the balloon added: “The pilot did a fantastic job of getting us down safely.”
The logo on the balloon – Original Bristol 106.5FM – is for a former radio station that operated between 2007 and 2009.
The current owners of the balloon are Bailey Balloons and have been contacted for comment.
