A new study suggests one beer a day could really keep the doctor away.
Researchers at NOVA University of Lisbon found that men who drank a lager every night had healthier guts.
Aside from that, non-alcoholic beer seemed to have the same effect.
The study involved nineteen healthy men between the ages of 23 and 58 who were asked to drink a bottle of Super Bock lager with dinner every night for a month.
About half of the beers contained 5.2% alcohol, while the others were non-alcoholic, they reported the daily mail.
By the end of the month of testing, there were no discernible differences in the men’s weight, fat mass, or cholesterol levels.
Interestingly, however, a stool analysis showed that the men had a wider range of bacteria in their gut after the experiment – a 7% increase was observed in all groups.
Researchers argued that drinking a bottle of beer, regardless of alcohol content, may be beneficial for men’s gut health.

The group said beers with higher yeast levels could have an even stronger effect on gut bacteria.
Beer is said to improve the human microbiome — the collection of both good and bad microbes that live inside us — because it contains micronutrients called polyphenols.
Polyphenols occur naturally in plants and can help encourage the growth of good bacteria in the stomach.

However, research shows that excessive drinking can be incredibly harmful to your health, increasing your risk of cancer, liver disease, heart failure and stroke.
In fact, despite the consistently positive results, the researchers insisted that alcohol-free beer was better for overall health, arguing that “the safest level of alcohol consumption is none.”
The NHS recommends that adults consume no more than 14 units per week, which is around six pints of beer.
