DRIVERS were stunned after short-sighted community workers painted conflicting speed signs side-by-side on the road.
The signs, one reading 30mph and the other 20mph, have been freshly painted on the street in Crouch End, north London.
Both sides of the road on Elder Avenue and the main street Topsfield Parade are clearly marked by signs at 20 mph.
But the newly painted markings say you can go 30 mph one way and 20 the other.
Locals took to social media to complain – and while some thought it was “hilarious,” others suspected deliberate confusion to make money.
One person said: “Freshly painted 30 limit, despite 20 limit left, right, straight and back!”
Another joked: “Education is still a big issue in the UK.”
While another added: “It’s certainly for Haringey Council!”
Meanwhile, a woman said, “I think they’re trying to get us, they must need the money.”
A lot of people agreed with her, thinking it might be a money-smasher for the council.
Another woman said: “Seriously!! Haringey are something else Alisha Sufit Ooops someone wasn’t paying attention.
“Or who knows, maybe it’s another ‘small breadwinner’ for the community?”
Haringey Council has been contacted for comment.
