Melbourne: Driver horrified as giant spider appears on windscreen

This is the hair-raising moment, one of the biggest in the world be crazy emerges from hiding to surprise a driver at the worst possible time.

Nath Jennings, of Melbourne, Australia, said his girlfriend Millie had known for months there was a huntsman spider in her car but couldn’t find out where.

Unfortunately, the arachnid, one of the largest species of spiders on earth, waited until the car sped down the road to reveal itself.

Nath, who recorded the encounter, said: “We did notice that a spider in the car a few months before this happened but could never find where it went.

“So, this spider lived in this car.

“It finally made it to the front seat at the worst possible time.”

In Nath’s footage, the creature lurks in the upper corner of the driver’s side windshield.

When he zooms in, you can see his jaws catching the light.

“Don’t,” Millie warns, “it’ll jump at you, Nathan.”

Nath, 24, said: “She was definitely shocked but as I mentioned she knew it was somewhere in the car the entire time, which is creepy when you think about it.

“I was quite scared to be honest – we just didn’t want it falling off the windshield onto the driver or passengers and possibly causing an uproar that could obviously lead to more serious problems.”

Luckily the ride was short and – although the hunter started moving – it didn’t fall on Millie, Nath or their buddies Jamie and Keith.

“He didn’t do us any harm, he just crawled up and down the windshield,” Nath said.

“It started on the driver’s side and worked its way through me in the passenger seat. I didn’t enjoy it.

“The drive to the chicken shop only took about six minutes. I jumped out of the car as soon as we parked and kept my distance.

“Keith had to remove the spider.”

Huntsman spiders are found throughout Australia.

And while they’re venomous and have a bite that can be painful to humans, they’re not generally considered dangerous.

Nath said: “Honestly, spiders are quite common in Australia but I’ve never seen one that big and lurking so close in our car!”
