Dublin gym flooded as a result of heavy rains as Met Éireann reports 3mm of rain per hour overnight

A gym in Dublin city center was damaged by flooding caused by heavy rains last night.

Estwood Gym in Temple Bar, which has a large two-story gym and a 20-metre swimming pool and spa, was severely affected by water damage.

A video circulating online shows water cascading from the ceiling onto the floor of the gym as staff quickly set out buckets and towels to collect rain.

This comes as Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rain warning for Cork as the country experiences a rainy spell.

The national forecaster said heavy showers today and possible scattered thunderstorms could lead to spot flooding in the county. The warning is in effect until 8 p.m. tonight.

Met Éireann’s 12-hour rain radar shows that between two and three millimeters of rain per hour fell in some areas last night and into the early hours, particularly in the south and north.

There is also a weather warning for the whole country until 7pm tonight.

It will remain restless with heavy rain or showers for much of this week, potentially causing further disruption.
