Irish star Alisha Weir revealed she cried with happiness when she got the role of Matilda in the film adaptation of Tim Minchin’s hit musical.
eir (13) spoke on the red carpet at the premiere of ‘Matilda The Musical’, kicking off the 66th edition of the London Film Festival on Wednesday.
The musical piece depicting Roald Dahl’s 1988 novel will hit Irish theaters before Christmas.
Weir stars alongside Stephen Graham (Mr Wormwood), Andrea Riseborough (Mrs Wormwood) and Emma Thompson (Ms Trunchbull).
“This is my first big movie, it’s amazing and I’m a bit nervous but they make me feel very welcome.
“I watched everything they were doing so I could be like them,” Alisha said at the launch.
The teenage girl said the musical’s cast were her heroes and couldn’t believe her luck in getting the role.
“I was so stunned, I started crying and I was so happy and grateful.
“Growing up, I’ve always loved Matilda, it’s always been one of my favorites. I couldn’t believe it, didn’t know when it would sink but it was crazy to think that I was Matilda,” Weir said.
The young actor from Knocklyon in Dublin has previously starred in the TV show Darklands and in the feature film Don’t Leave Home.
