Duchess of Sussex praised for ‘eloquent’ discussion of depiction of Asia in film

The Duchess of Sussex has been praised for her “eloquent” discussion of the negative portrayal of Asian women in Hollywood films.

“These portraits have had such a huge impact on our community because for a long time there was no opportunity for our community to be portrayed authentically.

“Through these stereotypes, the Asian community has been, and often is, weird or exaggerated.”

The East West Players was the first professional Asian-American theater organization established in the United States to help provide opportunities and education in Asian culture.

Veteran actor James Hong, 93, is one of the founding members.
