The Cloning Man said: “I’m really excited and really excited to be here. It’s been a long time coming and it’s not a big secret but it’s what I really wanted and I’m glad it’s done.

“Unfortunately, last year my dad passed away and I wanted to be closer to my family.

“But also, I believe I am returning home to the right club that put Irish League football on the map with their results in the Europa League group stage.

Wolves signed the defender in 2007 and moved to Bolton Wanderers two years later, for a seven-figure fee.

Although he never made a breakthrough at the Trotters, he has a wealth of experience in League One and Two and the top two leagues in Scotland.

Dundalk Head coach Stephen O’Donnell said: “We’re getting a centre-back who plays very well and he’s also a great communicator.

“He leads by example.

“He is coming back from a very good loan spell at Dunfermline where he has played brilliantly and he has played a lot of games in 90 minutes in the last few months and without a doubt he will adds a lot of quality to our lineup. ”
