“Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Donates 7 Figures to SAG-AFTRA Amid Actors’ Strike”

Actor and retired professional wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has donated an unprecedented “seven figure” amount to SAG-AFTRA amid the actors’ union strike, a representative for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation told HuffPost Monday.
Of the 160,000 SAG-AFTRA members, some 2,700 of the union’s top earners received a letter from union President Courtney B. Vance and CEO Cyd Wilson detailing the need for financial assistance during the walkout.
Johnson’s seven-figure donation is the largest lump sum the union has received from a single donor since its inception in 1985, a representative told HuffPost, calling it a “milestone.”
The exact amount of Johnson’s donation was not disclosed. However, Wilson told diversitywhich first released news Monday that the sum is likely to help 7,000 to 10,000 members through the union’s emergency financial assistance program.
“It’s a call for all of us to know that we just need to get as strong as we can,” Vance told Variety. “Dwayne lets everyone know, ‘I’m here.’ What are you going to do?'”
A rep for Johnson did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.
