For those of us who’ve spent time on the web looking for our first (or fifth) custom PC build, we know that along with the CPU and GPU, the bread and butter of your interaction is the mouse and keyboard. Wars have been fought over which brand is better, which keyboard switch is better, which keycaps are better, etc., because they make up the majority of our tactile interaction with the gaming rig. Yet for folks who squabble the Knights over red versus blue and Kaihl versus cherry until the wee hours of the morning, we spend remarkably little time worrying about where we’re going to park our butts — literally. For long or short gaming sessions, doesn’t our butt deserve to be treated as well as our fingers? Why should keycaps be the only things you can visually customize with your own personality? DXRacer is here to answer that question with a resounding “not on my watch”. Enter the new line of DXRacer: DXRacer Craft – the result of 20 years of chair development and knowledge from a number of top pro gamers and gaming companies.

For this review, we were chosen from a pre-packaged selection of chairs for a test drive – after all, it doesn’t really matter what the design IS, as we ask a few questions that deal more generally with the Craft’s features. is it comfortable How adjustable is it? Are the materials high quality and how are the logos and designs integrated into the material? While I have to admit that it would have been absolutely fantastic to have the opportunity to design my own chair from scratch, I am by no means dissatisfied with the chair from their ready-to-use catalogue; In my case the “Lucky Always” theme that you will see in pictures throughout the review.

Before I get to the meat and potatoes, I would like to give DXRacer a quick note on the ease of assembly. I’ve put together a few different racing chairs from numerous other companies and this was hands down the absolute easiest time I’ve ever had putting a chair together. All the holes lined up perfectly, the handles were already attached to the base and, my absolute favorite feature, the metal hinges that attach to the backrest have small slats to help the base line up perfectly with the hinges. If you’ve ever assembled a chair, you surely know the struggle of getting the backrest to cooperate while you’re desperately trying to fasten at least one screw. For me, it usually ended in a few minutes with swearing, a scraped finger, some sweat, and a feeling of utter disgust at whoever did it. DXRacer has solved this problem perfectly and I sincerely hope it catches on with other brands – it’s a hit of pure brilliance.

The first thing I do after assembling a chair is, well, sit on it. The main concern for me is whether it’s comfortable or not. The quality of the materials and the aesthetics don’t matter if you can’t stand to sit in the chair. I am very happy to report that the DXRacer may be the most comfortable chair I have ever sat in. They really took the idea to heart if you want to spend hours in a gaming session and you deserve to be comfortable doing it. For example, this is the first computer chair I’ve owned with adjustable lumbar support, and it’s a feature I never knew I needed until I had it. As someone with a complex back injury, I’ve found that what’s comfortable one day can be awful the next. I have to adjust the lumbar support every day and wonder how I ever lived without this feature. The seat cushion is just soft enough not to hurt after a long gaming session and just firm enough that I don’t feel like I’m sitting on a cushion. As an all round big and solid person it can be difficult to get a cushion to maintain comfort after a while and I have yet to find that end point with the DXRacer Craft. The memory foam neck pillow is just the icing on the cake at this point, and the wildly adjustable armrests (four control points) are the sprinkles

After settling on the fact that my butt is pretty happy with its share of requirements, it was time to think about how it made my eyes and skin (creepy, I know) feel. The armrests are made from a black rubbery material that seems to resist the oils and sweat that come off the skin fairly well. I’ve found with previous chairs that it tends to become clear exactly where your arm was – especially after a long gaming session – and that doesn’t seem to be the case with the Craft series. The vast majority of the chair is made of soft leather material. It is very comfortable on the skin and visually pleasing to the eyes. It lacks the harsh shine of traditional leather while retaining the visual quality of genuine leather.

The icing on the cake, however, is the embroidery. Usually you will see some stitching where two colors meet, but DXRacer has gone one step further and made all the text and design on the chair with different colored stitching and the effect is absolutely stunning. If there were a single feature that indicates the quality of the product, it would be the stitching. Searching the chair, I have yet to find a single stitch skipped or out of place – a fact that lends tremendous credence to the luxury claim. I sit in awe as I look at the back of the seat back and the level of detail that DXRacer was able to achieve with simple stitching over decals. I don’t know of anything comparable on the market – it’s really unique.

Final Thoughts

DXRacer has once again led the way and I doubt it will be long before we see other companies follow suit. Not only does the readily available catalog have designs for everyone to enjoy, but the fact that you can contact DXRacer and work with them directly to create your own custom chair is just mind blowing. DXRacer sacrifices nothing in the name of customization and aesthetics, delivering a truly premium and luxurious product – every aspect of the chair screams quality craftsmanship. Going back to the original question in the article summary, “Is the juice worth the squeeze?” I can say unreservedly – absolutely.
