EA shuts down Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile

Electronic Arts has ended development on Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile. It also shuts down Battlefield Mobile developer Industrial Toys.
The news was part of EA’s fiscal 2023 Q3 financial results released yesterday, in which the company announced that it will also be postponing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to April.
EA says it’s ending Battlefield Mobile, which hasn’t fully released yet (although many betas had played through), as part of a “pivot from current direction to best execute our vision for the franchise and meet the expectations of our players.” .” The company adds that it’s hard at work advancing Battlefield 2042, which launched to the disappointment of fans, and “in pre-production of our future Battlefield experiences at our studios around the world.”
As for Apex Legends Mobile, EA says that despite the game’s strong start, “the ongoing experience would not meet the expectations of its players”.
“At Respawn, we aim to provide players with consistently great games,” a opinion reads from respawn. “After a strong start, the content pipeline for Apex Legends Mobile has begun to fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence. This is why, after months of working with our development partner, we have made the decision to discontinue our mobile game. While disappointing, we’re proud of the game we’ve launched, grateful for the support of the Apex Legends community, and confident that this is the right decision for players.”
All real money in-app purchases have been disabled and the game has been removed from web stores. From now until the end of the game on May 1st, players can spend their existing Syndicate Gold and continue playing the full game.
