Eastbourne Borough reports racial abuse of players

Eastbourne Borough says two of their players have been targeted for “heinous” racial slurs by opposition supporters.

The incidents happened last night at Dartford’s 2-1 defeat in the Vanarama National League South.

In a statement, the Borough Board reports that both issues are being addressed.

The first reported incident occurred towards the end of the game and involved a player on the touchline.

He was the subject of what Borough describes as “unacceptable and disgusting comments of a racist nature from one of the Dartford supporters behind the dugouts”.

Borough reported: “Another of our players was similarly abused on the field by another supporter.

“This despicable behavior has no place in football and both clubs are united in football and committed to equality for all.”

In the statement, Borough points out that Dartford’s stewards and supporters intervened the first time around.

The club added: “We trust and believe that our friends at Dartford will act in the strongest possible terms to ban this well-known individual from their soil and will take steps to report him to the relevant authorities for further sanctions.

“Both players are shocked and dismayed and have the full support of everyone at the club. We will continue to fight racism in all its forms.”

Dartford said: “People like that have no place in the game and certainly not in Princes Park.”
