COAST GUARD was called to assist in the search for six missing people in less than two hours.
RNLI Eastbourne was first tasked to search the shoreline near Beachy Head for a missing person around 11pm on Monday 11 July.
The volunteer crew were asked to launch their coastal lifeboat and assist the police and local coastguard.
“Following a thorough search of the area, the missing person was found safe and sound,” said a spokesman for the RNLI Eastbourne.
The coastal lifeboat and crew members were then detached and returned to the station.
Less than two hours later, the RNLI Eastbourne volunteer crew was called out after reports were sighted of five people going into the sea near Eastbourne Pier.
They were asked to launch the coastal lifeboat and assist the police at around 00:50 on Tuesday 12 July.
“Once on site and a search of the area confirmed that the victims had made it ashore,” the spokesman said.
“Since there were no other people in the water, the lifeboat was shut down, returned to the station, refueled and made ready for use.”
