EastEnders aired a tribute to late actor June Brown on Monday night, after actress Dot Cotton passed away on Sunday.
The BBC confirmed the news of June’s death and shared a statement on behalf of her family, hours before the episode aired on BBC One.
As fans reeled from the sad news that the soap legend had passed away, the show aired a touching tribute to the star at the end of the episode.
Fans praised the “beautiful” moment, like a photo from June when Dot appeared on screen in black and white.
Attached to the image are the words: “Lovely tribute to June Brown OBE, MBE. 1927 – 2022.”
Viewers were so moved by the tribute to the star, they took to Twitter to praise it shortly after the news was announced.
One fan said: “Beautiful tribute to the legendary Brown RIP June sleep tight you beautiful angel.”
Another commented: “The tribute to June Brown at the end of tonight’s episode is a lovely touch.”
The third added: “What a lovely and perfect episode in tribute to June,” as the fourth viewer said: “What a great tribute to the June browns at the end of #EastEnders tonight in loving memory.”
The last scenes of the iconic June as Dot aired in 2020 as she left Walford for good cause, while the character has been mentioned and visited several times by other characters since that, even in recent scenes.

Dot still has its roots in Walford, with late husband Jim Branning’s family still there including his niece Sonia Fowler, while Dot’s niece Dotty is also on the show.
Sharing the sad news of her passing on Monday afternoon, the soap’s boss said: “We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved June Brown, OBE, MBE passed away that night. via.
“There aren’t enough words to describe how much June is loved and cherished by everyone at EastEnders.
“June has created one of the most iconic characters in Dot Cotton, not only in soap but also on British television, and having appeared in 2884 episodes, June’s remarkable performances have been making for some of EastEnders’ greatest moments…
“We send all of our love and deepest sympathies to June’s family and friends. A very bright light went out at EastEnders today – we will all raise a glass of sweet sherry during the day. the memory of June. Rest in peace, our dearest June. You will never be forgotten.”
June’s family said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved mother, June, passed away peacefully at her home in Surrey on Sunday evening, with her family next door family.
“We kindly ask that our privacy be respected at this very difficult time.”
