EastEnders’ Jean Slater abruptly breaks out of Walford to ‘drowning’ horror

EastEnders’ Jean Slater drives away from Walford with new fire Harvey Monroe on BBC’s latest episode, amid concerns about her mental health

EastEnders aired a series of sorts for Jean Slater on Wednesday night’s edition of the BBC soap, as her mental health struggles continue – amid recent reports that she may have drowned in tragic scenes.

This character’s behavior has recently caused concern with her loved ones, especially her daughter Stacey, as she continues to act.

From telling her grandson Arthur about his father’s murder, to having a giant castle erected in the middle of the Square, Stacey fears she’s having a manic episode.

Jean, like Stacey, suffers from bipolar disorder and Stacey shared her anxiety about recent developments, which led to her halting contact between herself and her children.

Recent scenes see the mother and daughter clashing over Jean’s abandonment of her and deciding Stacey was “dead with her”, before moving in with Harvey.

On Wednesday, Stacey tried to explain to Harvey that Jean’s mother’s current behavior was evidence that she was experiencing a manic episode.

Harvey doesn’t understand and says Jean is fine, leaving Stacey feeling helpless.

Harvey then suggests a trip out of London to Jean, and his lover takes great care before insisting that they leave immediately and no later.

Stacey was stunned when she suddenly saw Jean and Harvey getting ready to drive out of Walford, and she realized what was going on.

Her concerns culminate when Jean refuses to look at her and tells her that Harvey is “taking her to the coast” to travel.

Stacey turned around to ask where they were going and was displeased with Harvey after their earlier conversation.

As Jean sings, Harvey explains it’s a natural respite and leaves quickly, with Eve asking Stacey why she let them go.

She then explained: “What do I do, she’s not in danger yet… she doesn’t want to help, he’s my last hope.”
