EastEnders Dot Cotton actress June Brown passed away at age 95 on Sunday, and on Monday’s The One Show, a tribute was made to the soap legend

BBC’s The One Show aired a moving tribute on Monday to EastEnders legend June Brown, who has died aged 95 – with co-star Natalie Cassidy recalling some of their last conversations.
Favorite Soap ran Dot Cotton on the BBC series for 35 years, starting in 1985 shortly after its first premiere.
On Monday night’s show The One, hours after the news of her death was announced, the show paid tribute to the late star.
As well as showing clips of her time on the soap and her time on the BBC evening programme, they welcomed actress Sonia Fowler Natalie to talk about the late star.
As she paid tribute to her late friend, she recalled the “honour” she felt when she appeared in a duel with June a little while ago.
Natalie confessed that there was a scene in this episode that aired in 2002 that they still remember years later, even recently.
She explained: “It didn’t really make sense as it did and I was a little bit off the plot, and I did this scene and then even I said eight months ago when we I talked, she was always talking about that scene.
“She would say, ‘Do you remember that scene when the magic just happened?” and something happened that wasn’t meant to happen. It was a special scene for us and a special episode, and that’s something I will always remember. “
In tribute to her friend, she added: “I don’t know where to start, it was a really sad day. She was an absolute strength, she was incredible to work with. .
“She’s so fun, she’s professional, she’s daring and naughty at the same time, she’ll be missed so much by it all.”
The last scenes of the iconic June as Dot aired in 2020 as she left Walford for good cause, while the character has been mentioned and visited several times by other characters since that, even in recent scenes.
Dot still has its roots in Walford, with late husband Jim Branning’s family still there including his niece Sonia, while Dot’s niece Dotty is also on the show.
In a statement Monday afternoon, EastEnders confirmed the news of June’s death and shared a statement on behalf of her family.
The soap boss said: “We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved June Brown, OBE, MBE sadly passed away last night.
“There aren’t enough words to describe how much June is loved and cherished by everyone at EastEnders.
“June has created one of the most iconic characters in Dot Cotton, not only in soap but also on British television, and having appeared in 2884 episodes, June’s remarkable performances have been making for some of EastEnders’ greatest moments…
“We send all of our love and deepest sympathies to June’s family and friends. A very bright light went out at EastEnders today – we will all raise a glass of sweet sherry during the day. the memory of June. Rest in peace, our dearest June. You will never be forgotten.”
June’s family said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved mother, June, passed away peacefully at her home in Surrey on Sunday evening, with her family next door family.
“We kindly ask that our privacy be respected at this very difficult time.”
