EastEnders star Nitin Ganatra’s family corner shop is attacked by racist thugs

Nitin Ganatra has spoken about his family’s experience of running a corner shop which he says has been targeted by thugs over the years, including an incident last year

Former soap star Nitin Ganatra said his family’s corner shop was attacked by racist thugs last year.
The 54-year-old actor, best known for playing Masood Ahmed on BBC soap EastEnders for more than a decade, recently opened up about the incident on a podcast.
He explained the incident was a horrific reminder of the racial abuse he faced in the 1980s.
Nitin spoke about her experience with the company on the Made in the Midlands podcast. He said: “Growing up was tough. We had a corner shop that got attacked a lot.”

However, the actor said the family “tapped it [their] step,” explaining that they did it because they thought, “‘This is how people behave in this country’.”
However, he stated that the store has even been targeted in recent years, with a relative being attacked. He said: “The windows were smashed and my brother was attacked last year.”
Nitin – who performed at EastEnders from 2007 until his departure in 2019, said his family’s shop was once attacked by a group of 25 to 30 “skinheads”.
