“Sid helped create such an iconic character in Ricky who has become so identified with the show and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him back for a while.
“Ricky has a lot of history in the Square to explore and while a lot of time has passed since we last saw him, it is fair to say that no matter where Ricky goes, he always finds himself like slapped in the middle of the mayhem.”
Also joining the cast is British actor Navin Chowdhry, who will make his EastEnders debut as incarcerated patriarch Nish Panesar, emerging from two decades behind bars.
Chowdhry said: “It was amazing, everyone was so lovely. My role right now centers around the Panesar family, but everyone is extremely welcoming.
“I’ve never worked on a show like EastEnders, so it’s a new experience for me but I love the storylines and I’m very concerned about this family because there’s so much going on all the time.
“Nish is an interesting character, a bit out of the ordinary and that brings drama and mess.
“I think there’s a good man down there but the chaos drags these people around so I’m excited to get in and make a few more explosions and fireworks.”
The 51-year-old actor is currently filming the upcoming fall scenes.
Mr. Clenshaw added: “The specter of Nish Panesar is here at last, and it’s been a pleasure welcoming Navin to the cast, and playing the role with ease; he brings something to the character that none of us could have predicted.
“His dynamics are on and off screen, and we’re excited to see where his character evolves as the story evolves.”
