Millions of households receiving Universal Credit, child benefits, tax credits and more government support have been warned that their payment dates will change over Easter as a result of two periods. seasonal bank holiday.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) – the body that governs the payments – has revealed the key dates for your spring break diary.

The DWP says if you’re due to be paid on Friday, April 15, you’ll receive your payment a day earlier on Thursday, April 14 instead.

If you’re due to be paid on Monday, April 18, you’ll also be paid on Thursday, April 14 – three days earlier.

This includes most benefits such as tax credits, pension payments and General Credit if your usual payment date falls on a holiday.

A similar change will occur during the May Bank Holidays and holidays marked The Queen’s Platinum Year.

Previously, if your payment date came in on Monday, May 2, you could get cash on Friday, April 29, due to the holiday.

Similarly, for Monday, if your payment date falls on Thursday, June 2 or Friday, June 3, you can receive your cash on Wednesday, June 1 because those days are public holidays.

If the amount you are receiving or expecting to receive is not enough, you can apply for a hardship payment, but you will have to pay it back. You can learn more about this on government website .

Child benefit payment date

Child Benefit pays £21.15 a week for the first child and £14.95 a week for subsequent children for eligible parents.

From April, it goes up to £21.80 a week and £14.45 a week for additional children.

If you’re due to be paid on Friday, April 15, the DWP says you’ll be paid April 14 instead.

Likewise, if you are due to be paid on Monday, April 18, you will receive your payment on April 14 instead.

If your payment date falls on a normal day other than a bank holiday, you will receive your payment as usual. All payments are automatic – so you won’t need to contact the DWP if affected.

Tax credit payment dates are also changing

The tax credit works as a separate system and benefits are paid to the families who need it most, such as those who need help with childcare, the disabled or low-income.

There are two types of tax deductions – child tax credit and Working tax credit. You may be eligible for one or both, depending on your circumstances.

Date of payment:

Out of date: Friday, April 15, 2022 – Payment: Thursday, April 14, 2022

Out of date: Monday, April 18, 2022 – Payment: Thursday, April 14, 2022

What about General Credit payments?

Depending on your ‘assessment deadline’, the date by which you can expect to receive your Universal Credit will vary around Easter.

This period begins the day you first claim benefits, and you’ll then receive cash each calendar month thereafter. Funds are typically released 7 days after the initial evaluation period ends.

However, since Easter weekend provides millions of workers with two days off, the amount you’re expecting to receive may vary by date.

If you are expecting to receive your money on Friday, April 15, or Monday, April 18, you may have the money in your bank account on Thursday, April 14.

That’s because Friday is Good Friday, so it’s a public holiday, and Monday is Easter Monday, another holiday.

Date of payment:

Out of date: Friday, April 15, 2022 – Payment: Thursday, April 14, 2022

Out of date: Monday, April 18, 2022 – Payment: Thursday, April 14, 2022

What about state pensions, ESAs, income support, Carers Allowance and other Easter benefits?

For Universal Credit – if your payment is due on Easter Friday or Easter Monday, support will be made prior to Thursday.

This also applies to the Attendance Allowance, state pension, Carer Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Pension Credit and Individual Independent Payments.
