Ed Sheeran is interested in astronomy and has reportedly built an observatory in his backyard with “state-of-the-art equipment” for his new hobby.
The singer-songwriter, 31, is one of the biggest names in music, which means he’s often particularly busy – another tour with him will start soon.
When he’s not traveling the world, the Grammy Award winner likes to gaze up at the stars in his back garden – and he even has special gear.
According to a source who has said that Ed “knows a thing or two” about astronomy and can often be found observing the constellations when he is at home.

The source tells The sun that Ed “doesn’t have many nights off” — especially when he’s touring — but when he does he “loves being able to look up at the night sky.”
They said that he has “all the equipment to observe the constellations” and commented that he might surprise many of his fans when he learns that he knows about astronomy.
The source added, “There’s a powerful telescope he can use for stargazing and because he lives in the country it’s really dark and the visibility is great.”

The source said that for the singer – who has a young child with wife Cherry Seaborn – it was “a fun thing to learn about” as the hobby may be affecting his attitude.
Observing constellations and the like in the night sky “can really put things into perspective,” the source commented – with Ed being able to do so from the comfort of his backyard.
The Mirror reached out to Ed’s rep for comment.
He previously sang about staring at the sky in his 2014 song All of the Stars, which featured in the end credits of the film The Fault in Our Stars.

The song charted in several counties including the UK where it peaked at number 46, with the track reportedly having been certified platinum in the US and Canada.
Ed won’t be able to use the astronomy equipment in his backyard much in the coming months as he’s on his math tour which starts later this month.
He will be touring Europe over the coming months through September and touring parts of Australia and New Zealand early next year.
