Ed Sheeran has announced a partnership with the popular video game series Pokemon.
His track, called Celestial, will be released next Thursday and comes with an animated music video created by the studio behind the game.
Sheeran, 31, said he met the Pokemon boss while traveling in Japan and they joked that he would write a song for them.
In an Instagram post, he shared a sketch showing him with a Pikachu, one of the game’s most recognizable creatures, perched on his shoulder.
A short video also shows him lounging around with some Pokemon stuffed toys.
He wrote: “I started with Pokemon cards when the craze hit elementary school when I was about 7 years old, then the show was on TV so I usually try to record it on the same VHS every week. .
“Then me and my brother shared a game boy and Pokemon blue. I got a Pokemon yellow boys game for my 8th birthday, haunting is an understatement.
“Flash-forward to me at 31, I still have the same boyish colors in the game and I still play silver Pokemon on long haul flights.
“I really, really loved it. It gave me a proper escape as a kid into a fantasy world that seemed to go on and on, and in adult life, nostalgia made me feel like a kid again.
“I met the people in Pokemon while I was traveling in Japan, and we joked about me writing a song for them. But here we are now.

“Celestial is out next Thursday and the video is amazing, animated by the incredible people at Pokemon. I love it, you will love it. And we all have to catch them all. “
The Japanese-generated series, short for Pocket Monsters, was created in 1996 but has since expanded to include numerous TV series, movies, and card games.
It revolves around trainers living in a fictional world who capture and train hundreds of different species of Pokemon before using them to fight each other.
Sheeran is currently on a mammoth world tour in support of his latest album, =, also known as Equals.
