Ed Sheeran sends emotional tribute to late Jamal Edwards for watching SBTV

Ed Sheeran spoke about the pain of losing his friend Jamal Edwards in a song released on the late businessman’s SBTV music platform.
J and music entrepreneur Edwards, who was awarded an MBE for his music services in 2014, died on February 20 of last year at the age of 31.
The return of the SBTV F64 series saw Sheeran start with a 64-bar freestyle against Edwards, who died of a stimulant-induced cardiac arrhythmia, a coroner previously reported. ruling at an opening inquiry.
The music video opens with a camera shake directed at Sheeran, 31, who is lit by two spotlights and stands in a circle of candles.
Wearing a blue sweater and jeans, Sheeran started rapping: “Yo Jam, here’s a letter to you, it’s been a while but it’s been hard for me to get into the booth.
“Since we last spoke, I have become a father of two, trying to live life with a smile but it is harder to do.
“Because all I want to do is talk about you, but these tears won’t let me talk about you. We should have known we would have lost our way without you.”
Following the lyrics, the video lights up to show Jamal’s name spelled out on the benches of Stamford Bridge Stadium, home of Chelsea FC, the team of which Edwards is a lifelong fan.

In the emotional song, Sheeran raps about going out to eat “wings and bananas” because that’s how the pair usually celebrate and seems to allude to Edwards’ drug use.
He sings: “I never knew you touched that thing because you always annoy me, if you see me more than drunk you always hate what it does.”
He then added: “I wish I had known.”
Sheeran also mentioned spending more than a week at the home of Loose Women panelist Brenda Edwards after learning of her son’s death.

“We cried nine nights at your family home…. Stayed at your mother’s house all week, trying to explain but I couldn’t, and even though it’s been a year, my heart still aches,” he sings.
Other lyrics include Sheeran wishing Edwards would know he would become godfather to his second daughter, Jupiter, adding: “If it weren’t for them I’d be dead.”
He concluded: “I cannot accept that you are gone or the pain I am feeling…I think about you every day nothing can ease this pain.”
Edwards rose to fame after founding the music platform SBTV in 2006 and is credited with helping launch a host of UK musical acts to stardom, including Sheeran, Dave and Jessie J. .
