Ed Sheeran sends heartbreaking tribute to late cricket legend Shane Warne

When it came to the tragic death of cricketer Shane Warne, Thinking Out Loud singer Ed Sheeran spoke to Australian TV show The Project as he recalled his time with the star.

Shane Warne discusses ‘bromance’ with Ed Sheeran in 2018

Ed Sheeran paid tribute to late friend Shane Warne, who tragically passed away from a heart attack.

The cricketer, 52, is a sports icon and he and Ed, 31, forged a strong friendship after meeting in Shane’s hometown, Australia.

Ed, who just announced he will tour Oz and New Zealand next year, spoke to Aussie show The Project about how much he misses his friend.

Explaining how he first met Shane, he said: “We met in 2014, when I was doing Logies. He stayed at the hotel next to me, and do you remember he had that club at Crown are not?

“He took me and his friends there, and it was like the first time I went out with him.

“So – man, he’s done some really amazing things. I have some friends who really love cricket, and he just suggested a date like ‘Do you want me to take them in? net in Lord no [in London]? “

“You know – that flower’s heart is huge, and he’s such a lovely person inside and out. There are so many stories like that.”

Ed then spoke about the time he did his Australia tour in 2015, revealing Shane did his father’s day.

“He put me in the net at the Melbourne Cricket Ground,” the star explained.

“He was bowling with my dad, and my dad did the shots and everything.

“Then I whispered to him, ‘Give him a proper Shane Warne ball’ – man, do they fly! They really fly.”

It has been a difficult year for Ed, who grieving the loss of friends businessman Jamal Edwards and music mogul Michael Gudinski, who passed away at the age of 68 last March.

They are great friends



Ed was ‘totally heartbroken’ to lose his friend

Ed explains that his +-= ÷ x tour, also known as the Math Tour, will be very sweet because of his loss.

“It was kind of weird that we booked a date and it was the anniversary of his passing,” he said of Michael.

“It’s going to be an emotional day, but it’s going to be amazing and I’m so proud to be able to play it. I wish he could see it.”

After news of Shane’s death broke, Ed shared a joint snap of the cricketer and Michael on Instagram with the caption: “The world always takes away incredible people.

“I spoke to Shane on the anniversary of Michael’s death this week and said we are both toasting a 707 in his honor, and now this news comes out.

“Shane is the kindest person at heart, and goes above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome and special. What a gentleman.

“He devoted so many hours and years of his life to bringing joy to others, and was a great friend to me. I miss you dear friend. Absolutely gutted”.
