Eddie Hearn said he has already started talks with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez about a rematch against Dmitry Bivol.
Canelo challenged long-time rival Gennady Golovkin last Saturday (September 17) to round out the pair’s trilogy and bounce back from a loss to Bivol.
Mexican Canelo, who remained the undisputed super middleweight champion with his second win over Golovkin, suffered a decision loss to Bivol in May when he challenged the Russian for the WBA light heavyweight title.
Hearn, who promoted Canelo for the multi-weight world champion’s recent bouts, recounted boxing social on Friday (September 23): “Absolutely, we are already talking about the fight against Dmitry Bivol; see if he wins in Abu Dhabi [against Gilberto Ramirez in November].
“But we have a great relationship. We’ve had five fights with Canelo Alvarez now, so hopefully we’ll continue for the rest of his career.”
Alvarez’s loss to undefeated Bivol was the second loss of his pro career after the 32-year-old lost to Floyd Mayweather in 2013.
Canelo was expected by some to hit back at Bivol, 31, right away but opted to face Golovkin for a third time instead. Meanwhile, Bivol will defend his title against Ramirez in November.
