Eddie Hearn on why Round 6 is crucial in Joshua vs Usyk 2

Eddie Hearn has explained why round six could be crucial in Anthony Joshua’s rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua was outpointed by Usyk in London last September and lost the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles to the undefeated Ukrainian.

On Saturday, Joshua will look to regain the belts and avenge the loss in another 12-round duel, with his promoter Hearn echoing many pundits’ sentiment that “AJ” must fight for the knockout.

“I just have a feeling he’s going to do everything right and let those hands go,” Hearn said Tuesday at open practice in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where the rematch will be held.

“If he lets go of those hands, I really believe he wins that fight. I’ve told him before: When the bell rings at the end of the sixth round, I want this fight to be over, or I want Oleksandr Usyk to be physically in a place he wishes he will never return to.

“If you let this man [Usyk] Get into his rhythm, you have no chance of winning this fight. That happened in the first fight; The sixth round is over, Usyk is getting better and better, he finds you out and before you know it you’re back in the dressing room.

“Go in there, come in between, make it count, make him pay. This must be a smash and grab. Get in there and roll over that man.”

Joshua had previously lost and regained the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO titles in 2019, dropping them to Andy Ruiz Jr. before regaining them in an immediate rematch.

Ruiz Jr. stopped the Brit in a seismic riot at Madison Square Garden in New York City in June of that year before Joshua outed the Mexican in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, six months later.

“I’m biased, I’ve been fooled at times, but I’m just a huge AJ fan,” added Hearn.

“I just see a guy who’s putting a lot of pressure on himself, I see a guy who wants it so bad, I see a guy who’s hitting very hard and is going to be very nervous about pouncing on Saturday night.” Eddie Hearn on why Round 6 is crucial in Joshua vs Usyk 2
