Edward Enninful Reveals Book Cover And Says ‘I’m Not Finished’

British Vogue Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful said that while he’s “achieved career milestones I never dreamed of,” he’s also “not done yet.”

The cover for Enninful’s upcoming book A Visible Man has been unveiled, with the cover photo taken by Rafael Pavarotti, who also photographed the February 2022 cover of British Vogue, which celebrates the rise of the African model.

Enninful, 50, who is also Vogue’s European Editor-in-Chief, has described the book as his “unedited voice – a journey of hard work, obstacles and raw determination”.

He told the PA news agency: “When lockdown happened I got introspective and started thinking about my whole life – that’s when I decided to pick up a pen.

“I just turned 50 and got married, I’ve achieved career milestones I never dreamed of, but I’m not done yet.”

Released worldwide on September 6th, A Visible Man chronicles his rise and journey in the global fashion industry.

He said: “My own story is inseparable from my struggle to make fashion respond to the world, and in doing so, help the world to evolve as well.

“It’s only now that I’ve written this book that I see that in working so hard to accommodate fashion, I’ve also forced an account with myself.”

His achievements as a fashion editor date back to 1991, when he was appointed fashion director of iD.

Born in Ghana, he moved to London as a child and grew up in the Ladbroke Grove area.

He became interested in fashion as a teenager after being scouted as a model and was the youngest fashion editor in the industry when he got the job at iD.

In 2016 he received an OBE for his services to diversity in fashion and in 2017 he took over as director of British Vogue from Alexandra Shulman.

Last month, Enninful married his partner Alec Maxwell.

“I don’t usually like to talk about myself. It wasn’t always easy doing this as I couldn’t let go of the final chapter, but I felt this urge to tell my story and I feel incredibly empowered to do so now,” Enninful said.

Brazilian photographer Pavarotti said: “It was a great honor to be part of this project, I have such admiration for Edward both personally and professionally.

“Creating this with him was organic and real. We shared and explored our thoughts. This cover reflects Edward’s soul, as beautiful and unique as this book, an extension of his universe.”

A Visible Man will be published by Bloomsbury in the UK on September 6th, simultaneously worldwide by Bloomsbury in Australia, India, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa, and in the US and Canada by Penguin Press.
