Follow Irish Times, tolls for private cars will increase by 10c on most PPP rates, with the exception of M3 in Co. Meath at least next year.

Tolls on the M4 road will increase from €2.90 to €3 for cars, while the M1, N6, M7/M8, N8, N25 Waterford and Limerick Tunnel tolls will go from €1.90 up to €2.

The Dublin Port Tunnel Fee – unchanged since 2010 – will be at €10 for peak hours and €3 for all other times of the day.

And on the M50, drivers with a toll card will not see any price increase but will increase from €2.60 to €2.70 for vehicles registered with a video account and for vehicles without a card, prices will be from € 3.10 to € 3.20.

This massive 2.9% inflation is from August 2020 to August 2021.

TII explained that the maximum toll rates for the coming year have been calculated for each road by vehicle type, in accordance with separate toll laws.

The base charges are inflated by a Consumer Price Index factor and the applicable VAT rate is then added and the charge is rounded to the nearest 10c in the case of PPP and M50 concessions, and to 50c. in the case of the Dublin Tunnel.

The actual amount charged at the toll collection cannot be higher than the maximum calculated charge amount.

VAT does not apply to the M50 tolls or the Dublin Tunnel as they are State owned.

Ten of Ireland’s 11 toll roads have permanent fenced toll stations and drivers can pay on the spot in cash.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) says that since raising tolls in 2013, the inflation rate has been 4.3% from August 2012 to August 2021.
