Elden Ring: George RR Martin Seems To Hide His Initials In Simple Vision

Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin seems to have hidden his initials around the world of the Elden Ring, by its many characters.

The game’s opening cutscene introduces one of the Elden Ring’s gods, Queen Marika, and the player finally meets her various relatives and descendants.

Spoiler alert: This future story contains some of the names and relationships of Elden Ring characters from deep in the game.

But the main four, as noted by PC Gamer, are Godfrey, Rennala, Radagon, and Marika. Their initials combine to form GRRM, not unlike George Raymond Richard Martin.

In fact, all the gods and demigods of the Elden Ring have names that begin with these three letters: Godfrey, Godwyn, Godrick, Rennala, Radagon, Radahn, Rykard, Ranni, Renna, Marika, Morgott, Mogh, Malenia, Miquella and Malikth.

Martin created the plot and history of the Elden Ring years ago in an opportunity “too exciting to turn down”. This includes naming many of its characters, though game director Hidetaka Miyazaki suggested that Martin might be shocked by what turns out to be theirs.

Miyazaki also placed important restrictions on Martin’s contributions because “the story must always serve the player’s experience”, but overall, he describes working with Martin as “like talking to an old friend”.

When the game was released on February 25, it became one of the best-reviewed games in modern history, and Martin said he was pleased with how the game was a success.

Developer FromSoftware could be too, as Elden Ring dominates sales in the US and is the best-selling game of 2022 so far. It’s also the UK’s biggest non-FIFA or Call of Duty release since 2018, and on Steam it’s been growing in popularity day by day before becoming the sixth most played game of all time.

Elden Ring has proven somewhat of a cultural phenomenon, with crazy ads, Twitch chat of a streamer playing while he scans, someone using the Nintendo Switch’s Ring Fit Controller to Defeat a boss, and it even has its own candy.

In our October 10 review, IGN said: “The Elden Ring is a massive repeat of what FromSoftware started with the Souls series, bringing its ever-challenging battle to a world The incredible openness allows us the freedom to choose our own path.”
