An elderly British woman has died and her husband is fighting for his life after they were cut down as they crossed a pedestrian crossing in Spain.
The couple were hit by a car at the Fuengirola resort in the Costa del Sol just before 5pm on Tuesday.
Witnesses said the man was pushing his wife in a wheelchair when they collided.
Last night Police confirmed that the woman, who has not been named, did not survive.
An investigation into the horror continued this morning.
It is understood that the tractor driver crashed into the foreign couple after their rear was obscured by the low sun.
He stopped at the scene and was told he had passed separate drug and alcohol tests.
Police have yet to make an official comment on the incident.
The police will file a report with the local investigating magistrate.
Officials will then decide whether the man should face any criminal charges.
The driver is said to have gotten behind the wheel of a VTC – or privately rented vehicle -.
His identity is still unknown.
It comes as Britons desperate for some sunshine return to Spain as Covid restrictions on UK tourists ease.
Bookings for the Costa Del Sol have increased by 40% since January 4 of this year.
April, May and June are expected to be particularly busy.
It is estimated that more than 300,000 British retirees live in Spain, with most homebuyers in the south.
