Fiona Beal, 48, is believed to have murdered her longtime partner Nick Billingham, who was found in the garden of their Northampton home
An elementary school teacher is on trial on charges of murdering her partner after his body was found buried in her back garden nearly five months after his death.
Fiona Beal, 48, is believed to have murdered her longtime partner Nick Billingham between October 30 and November 10 last year.
The 42-year-old construction worker was found in the garden of her Northampton home in March after four days of digging.
Beal was arrested 200 miles away at a Cumbrian hotel and charged with murder.
She appeared at Northampton Crown Court on Friday, where a preliminary hearing has been set for September 12 this year pending a plea.
Police were initially called to the home, where they began searching the entire patio property.
Forensic officers and specialized search teams, including a cadaver dog, were deployed and a body was found buried in the back garden.
The body was discovered at a Cumbrian hotel just hours after Beal was arrested.
Beal had taught at Eastfield Academy in Northampton before her arrest.
She was released days after her arrest.
A spokesman for Eastfield Academy said: “We can confirm that she is no longer employed by us.
“She was employed by Eastfield as of September 2020.”
