Ellen DeGeneres urges Montecito residents to stay safe after ‘unprecedented’ rain

Ellen DeGeneres has urged residents of Montecito, in California, to “stay safe” as the area continues to experience “unprecedented” weather conditions.

The American talk show host and comedian posted a video of herself filming near her home, she shares this video with her partner Portia de Rossi, next to a fast-flowing river.

It comes after local authorities ordered an evacuation from the area, where other famous faces include actors Rob Lowe, Oprah Winfrey and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The extreme weather came on the fifth anniversary of a deadly landslide in a coastal community that killed 23 people and destroyed more than 100 homes.

“This is crazy,” DeGeneres said in a video on his social media account.

“We are having unprecedented rain. The creek near our house never flows (and it) is probably about 9 feet high.

“It can grow two more feet. We have horses ready to evacuate.”

“We need to treat Mother Nature better, because Mother Nature is not happy with us.”

DeGeneres added in the caption of his post: “We were on higher ground so they asked us to shelter in place. Everyone please stay safe.

On Monday, a 5-year-old boy was swept away by flood waters and the death toll in the storm chain rose from 12 to 14 on Monday, after two people were killed by fallen trees, state officials said.

Tens of thousands of people remained without power, and some schools were closed for the day, streets and highways were flooded, and trees toppled.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said the decision to evacuate nearly 10,000 people was “based on continued high rainfall with no indication that that will change before nightfall.”
