Elton John and David Beckham are famous faces sharing new year wishes

Sir Elton John thanked his fans for being “awesome” and said it was now “stepping to the metal” in a New Year’s message.

Singer Rocket Man, 75, is one of many famous faces sharing their 2022 farewell messages on social media as New Year celebrations unfold around the world.

In a video posted to his Instagram, Sir Elton, who celebrated the arrival of 2023 in Australia, said: “Hello everyone! Happy New Year! It’s Happy New Year in Australia, not in most parts of the world.

“But I want to take this opportunity very early in 2023, say thank you because 2022 is great and let’s hope 2023 will be just as good.

“But you are amazing. Your support has been great. I love you dearly and I will see you next at Newcastle in Australia on January 8. From then on, it will continue to grow until July 8 in Stockholm. Farewell!”

Elton John is currently performing around the world as part of his post-retirement farewell tour, which ends in the summer.

Meanwhile, Paul McCartney kept his message short and sweet.

Next to the picture of him performing, he wrote: “Happy New Year to everyone in the world – Paul. #New Year’s Eve.”

Elsewhere, David Beckham celebrates with his wife Victoria and three of their four children.

Sharing a photo of the whole family standing in front of the fireworks display, the 47-year-old former player said he misses his eldest son Brooklyn celebrating elsewhere with his wife Nicola Peltz.

He wrote: “Happy New Year from BECKHAM’s. We love you @brooklynpeltzbeckham, we miss you. 2023.”

Elsewhere, former One Direction members Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne have reflected on the past year.

Tomlinson, 31, shared a series of photos along with the caption: “This time last year, I had no idea what year I was going to have.

“The places I’ve been, the people I’ve shared memories with, the shows I’ve been fortunate to be part of. I will never forget it.

“Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this year so special.

“Can’t wait to see what next year has in store for us!”

Meanwhile, Payne, 29, teased the possibility of new music, writing: “Happy New Year… I hope 2023 brings you everything you’ve ever wanted.

“Who knows maybe even some new music. Have a good time x”

Australian actor Hugh Jackman called in 2023 with an espresso martini while wishing fans a happy new year.
