Elton John commemorates his close friend Diana on the 25th anniversary of her death

Sir Elton John has paid tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales, on the 25th anniversary of her death, saying: “You will always be missed.”

The 75-year-old veteran musician, who was close friends with the princess, shared a photo of them laughing together on Instagram to commemorate the occasion.

Diana, the mother of the Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex, was 36 when she died in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997.

When Prince Andrew turned 21 in 1981, Sir Elton was reportedly hired to perform at the birthday party and it was there that he met Diana and the couple, who became closer while dancing the Charleston on the dance floor.

They became close friends and shared a passion for raising awareness of AIDS.

The Princess of Wales is welcomed by singer Elton John for the charity premiere of the musical ‘Tango Argentina’ at the Aldwych Theatre, London, in aid of the National Aids Trust and the Aids Crisis Trust.

After her death in 1997, Sir Elton performed at Diana’s funeral after the lyrics of his hit song Candle In The Wind were adapted to reflect her life.

The song seized on the nation’s grief and became the best-selling single in UK chart history to that date.

The Rocketman singer has regularly supported her sons William and Harry over the years, attending both royal weddings alongside husband David Furnish.
