Elton John has suffered from a number of health phobias over the past few years and was discovered in a wheelchair earlier this month. This is how the male singer is doing now when he performs at the Hyde Park BST
Elton John recently performed around the UK as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
Singer Rocketman started touring in 2018 and this is expected to be his last, ending in Sweden next summer.
He will play a sold-out game at Hyde Park today (June 24) just days after he was booed on his Sunderland show for joking about Newcastle.
But as the musical icon continues to perform, fans are becoming more and more concerned about his health.
Health concerns were raised earlier this month when the 75-year-old was seen arriving at Leipzig airport in a wheelchair, just days before his virtual performance for the Women’s Platinum Celebration King.
Ahead of his amazing performance at Hyde Park this evening, here’s Elton John’s current state of health.
Why is Elton John in a wheelchair?
After being photographed in a wheelchair at Leipzig airport in Germany, Elton was quick to explain to fans that he was in “best health”.
In an Instagram post, he said: “I’d like to thank all the fans who reached out to inquire about my well-being, after the tabloids ran a silly story about me ‘looking weak’ while in a wheelchair.
“The real story is that I’m in good health, enjoying my performances and playing and singing to the best of my ability.”
Elton insists that there’s a simple reason he uses a wheelchair and that doesn’t mean he’s sick.
He went on to explain: “After another 2.5-hour show, we arrived at Leipzig airport just before the curfew, and found part of the airport closed.
“It took a long time to get to the plane, so my team kindly put me in a wheelchair so I could rest after the show. That’s everyone. “
Elton postpones concerts due to hip injury
Fans may have been quick to draw conclusions about Elton’s health following the wheelchair incident as it was revealed last year that he had suffered a hip injury.
In 2021, he says he will have to postpone the rest of his Farewell tour after he “got into trouble” and required surgery.
In a statement about the tour, Elton said: “At the end of my summer break, I fell clumsily on a hard surface and have had significant pain and discomfort in my hip ever since.
“Despite aggressive physical and specialist treatment, the pain continued to get worse and resulted in increasingly difficult mobility.”
He later elaborated on his injury and decided to postpone his performances in an interview with Lorraine Kelly.
The singer shared: “I can’t walk across, can’t get in and out of the car. I won’t be completely healthy – I can’t be 100% confident because I’m in pain most of the time.”

Just a year before his hip injury, Elton had another health problem that forced him to pause a show in New Zealand.
In 2020, the crowd at his Auckland show got nervous after Elton cut the show short because he was too ill to continue.
After the show was halted, Elton revealed that he had been diagnosed with pneumonia while walking.
Announcing the news on Twitter, he said: “I want to thank everyone who attended the #EltonFarewellTour performance in Auckland tonight.
“I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia earlier today, but I am determined to give you guys the best human performance possible.
“I played and sang with all my might, until my voice could no longer sing. I am disappointed, extremely sad and sorry.
“I gave it all I had.”
Walking pneumonia is also described as a mild form of pneumonia and refers to a type of pneumonia that is not severe enough to require bed rest.
