Emily Atack calls police after ‘relentless and disgusting’ online rape threats

Actress Emily Atack has revealed she faces “relentless and disgusting” rape threats online, which prompted her to call the police.

The Inbetweeners star, 32, who has 1.8million followers on Instagram, said she is bombarded with around 200 harassing messages on social media every day, including ones threatening her safety.

She said the threats led her “at times to question her entire existence” and called on social media companies to crack down on explicit online comments.

The former ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here’ star said she had to move home four times after being targeted and abused her, telling The Sun On Sunday: “They knew where I lived, said what they would do for me, even my family.

“I called the police.”

The actress, who has been praised for her campaign against cyberbullying in recent years, said: “I’ve had people commenting on my body, my face, my hair, calling me fat, an untalented piece of shit. annoying whatever, all my life.

“I’ve developed a pretty thick skin. But once I started getting real rape threats and felt like my safety was at risk, it became too much.”

Adding that there’s a man who creates new accounts every time she blocks him, she told the newspaper: “He’s relentless and obnoxious – beyond imagination. And yet he says he is a married man with children.”

She added: “He’s sending rape threats, saying what he wants to do to me while his wife is in the room, and sending messages that his kids are downstairs in their playroom while he’s having fun with me.

“These men are exposing themselves to me, doing so in a more private way in my direct messages where I can’t avoid it. It feels shameful.

“It has sometimes made me question my entire existence and how men view me.”

Atack says she is now calling on social media companies to take action against such behavior online to protect women.

“This is assault and abuse.

“I should have the right to go in there (to their DMs) safely,” she said.

“More needs to be done to protect women.”
