Emma Willis said she was overwhelmed by the response to the photo of her son Ace

Emma Willis said she is still in shock at an image she shared showing her young son proudly wearing a pink shirt and letting his long hair fall loose.

The 46-year-old TV presenter is married to Busted star Matt Willis, 39, and together they become parents to daughters Isabelle, 12, Trixie, six, and 10-year-old son Ace.

Back in 2020, Emma innocently shared a snap of her son wearing a pink crop-top and revealing long blonde hair along with the caption: “My little style icon”.

While the star thought nothing of the images and captions, an evil section of the online community was enraged by the snapshot and began trolling the star, criticizing her for letting her son challenge the stars. gender standards.

Now in a new interview with Fabulous magazine, Emma says she still receives negative comments about the photo – and explains why her heart is broken for the fact that society cannot just for children to express themselves.

She told the magazine: “Unfortunately, [the hate] still there – both from parents and other kids,.

“I think it might be easier [than it would have been 20 years ago]but it’s still there.

“It’s a shame. It’s going to happen, but the stereotypes that have been ingrained in us years ago are hard to change.

Emma sparked controversy when she shared a photo of her son, Ace, wearing a pink top in 2020.

“And it’s not: ‘Come on, you should just accept it.’ It’s like: ‘What does it have to do with you? It is just a color. It’s just hair. That kid is just expressing themselves the way they want to. ‘

“Children should be encouraged to express themselves, play and experiment with colors and clothes. What are they doing? ”

Emma previously explained that many of her fans and online followers have praised her for Ace’s style choices.

She has three children with her husband, Matt Willis .

She explained on Good Morning Britain last year: “You know I’m really overwhelmed because it’s just my son wearing pink and for me that’s normal because he loves color, he’s always long hair.

“He’s a very free and open boy, he’s like, ‘Why should I dress in green and blue and gray if I like pink and red and purple? Why wouldn’t that be? is fine?”

“We are raising him as an open and inclusive individual.”

Emma added: “There are some negatives but that’s the beauty of the stopper.”

Meanwhile, some fans have left positive messages on Emma’s original social media post to express their admiration for Ace and his style.

One fan wrote at the time: “Wow his hair is amazing.”

While another posted: “Wow look at his lovely hair!! He’s definitely the future style icon”.
