Emma Willis, Rylan Clark and Oti Mabuse climbing on Red Nose Day

Emma Willis, Rylan Clark and Oti Mabuse prepare to take on Scotland’s Cairn Gorm climbing challenge on Red Nose Day, with support from Comic Relief.

The trio’s adventures will be captured in a documentary, Frozen: The Red Nose Day Challenge by Emma, Oti and Rylan, which will air on BBC One and iPlayer ahead of Red Nose Day on 17 May 3.

TV presenters Willis, 46, and Clark, 34, will join former Serious Dance judge Mabuse, 32, to navigate the harsh and subarctic terrain of the Cairngorms Mountains in the Highlands Scotland.

Speaking before embarking on the challenge, Willis said: “I agreed to participate in this Red Nose Day challenge for a number of reasons. The first is that when Comic Relief asks, you must always agree.

“Secondly, I love doing things that take me out of my comfort zone and I made a promise to myself earlier this year that I would do things that scared me.”

The trio – who will be armed with ice axes and iron hooks – will spend three days and two nights trekking through the landscape of Cairngorms National Park as they attempt to complete their quest to the top of Cairn Gorm.

Working as a team, Willis, Clark and Mabuse will be completely self-sufficient and take part in wild camping activities and the ever-changing elements.

Three famous faces have traveled to Scotland to complete training for the challenge that will begin in the village of Braemar, in Aberdeenshire, on 8 February.

Of the mission, Clark said: “I’ve never gone camping in my life. I have never slept in a tent. I have never worn a camping outfit. The only camping I do is camping on a Saturday night!

“I think the hardest part for me in this whole ordeal will be the whole challenge. I’m not going to lie to myself – this is not something I have ever done and this is not something I ever chose to do. But here I am, and I just hope I get out of there unscathed and without losing any of my paint in the snow.

“I think what’s going to get me through the whole ordeal is obviously girls and knowing we’re doing it for a great cause.

“The better we do, the more money we make. Knowing where the money is going is definitely going to be my motivator as I’m ready to throw it all in and call in a helicopter.”

Mabuse added: “I love everything about Red Nose Day. It feels like the whole country is coming together to help each other and I feel like in this day and age it’s important that we really help each other.

“The money we raise will hopefully help many people. I come from a country where we need a lot of help and being in this situation – maybe helping in some way – for me, that’s what I was raised to do.”

Red Nose Day returns to BBC One on Friday 17 March with hosts AJ Odudu, David Tennant, Joel Dommett, Paddy McGuinness and Zoe Ball.
